Legacy Scholars Foundation connects donors, families, and independent schools — making quality private K–12 education accessible through tax-advantaged scholarships for eligible Texas families.

The Legacy Scholars Foundation advances access to quality K–12 independent education by awarding scholarships to eligible students, prioritizing equity, transparency, and educational opportunity.
Formed as a nonprofit corporation in Texas and among the first organizations to obtain SGO certification in the state, LSF is built on a foundation of legal, tax, and education expertise.
LSF makes the scholarship process straightforward for donors, families, and schools alike — in just four steps.
Every eligible family deserves a clear path forward. Here's how to get started.
Per statute, eligible students must meet all of the following:
Legacy Scholars Foundation is accepting applications for the 2026–2027 school year.
No. Scholarships received by students are excluded from taxable income.
Preference is given to students who received a scholarship the prior year, making renewal straightforward for qualified students who remain enrolled at a member school.
Tuition, fees, textbooks, technology, transportation, uniforms, tutoring, and special needs expenses.
LSF partners with Member School task forces to guide allocations, prioritizing statutory preferences and equitable distribution.
LSF is actively partnering with independent schools across Texas. Contact us to find a member school near your family or to view the current full list.
Donate to PreK–12 education and receive significant tax credits — at no net cost to you. Anyone can give, and every dollar goes directly to student scholarships.
Beginning January 1, 2027, donors to SGOs like LSF receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit — redirecting tax dollars you already owe into student scholarships.
Online donations open January 1, 2027, when the SGO tax credit takes effect under the One Big Beautiful Bill. Contact us to get notified or discuss early giving options.
Per the One Big Beautiful Bill signed July 2025. LSF will issue Form 3520-SGO within 48 hours of your donation.
Anyone can donate to PreK–12 education and claim the credit, including:
A deduction reduces your taxable income; a tax credit reduces your actual tax bill dollar-for-dollar. SGO donations qualify as a credit — a far more powerful benefit.
Yes — donors may indicate a school preference and LSF honors those preferences. However, per statute, donations cannot be designated for a specific student.
Donors may remain anonymous. LSF issues quarterly reports to Member Schools identifying connected donations, but anonymity is protected unless the donor opts to disclose.
Please contact LSF for the most current information on credit carry-over rules as federal regulations are finalized.
LSF member schools gain exclusive access to a significant new revenue stream — with no upfront cost and no added administrative burden. Our systems integrate seamlessly with your existing financial aid processes.
Only Member Schools receive direct funding, creating a significant financial advantage for your institution.
LSF partners with each school to identify task force members who help guide scholarship allocations.
Unlock new scholarship funding that attracts students who couldn't otherwise attend your school.
If a student transfers between Member Schools, their scholarship funds transfer with them.
Membership is free, with no added administrative burden for your team.
Scholarship awards are issued on a rolling basis beginning Spring 2027. LSF will issue quarterly reports to each Member School identifying all connected donations.
Funds are restricted only to the extent required by statute — they must be used for eligible student scholarship purposes, not general operating expenses.
LSF's founding team brings deep expertise across law, taxation, and independent school administration — ensuring our model is built right, not built on the fly.
